Bible Handwriting and Cursive Sheets: FREE for Homeschool

FREE Bible Handwriting Sheets

Do you use Bible handwriting in your family homeschool?

I find that starting our day with Bible verses is the best way to survive and thrive through our homeschool day. Often, while I read our family devotion and verses, our 3 boys will sit and work on their handwriting with sheets like the ones below. It serves a dual purpose with memory work and teaches both print and cursive.

Samples:

Bible handwriting

Romans 5:8 is one of my favorite verses. Along with the handwriting and cursive sheets, you’ll find a break-down of the Greek words and definitions as we take a deeper look at the words the bible uses in the scriptures. Commended, His love, and For Us are looked at closely in this passage and are used to show that God not only paid for our sins, but that it was indeed He (in the flesh) who died for us.

This verse is one of many which shows that Jesus was not only the Son of God, and not just a prophet, but was Himself – God – come to fulfill the Word, manifest as a man, demonstrating His love to its fullest extent. For us.

Get additional FREE bible verse handwriting and cursive sheets from John 8:12 HERE.

I hope they will bless your family and that you consider starting your day off with Jesus – and FREE handwriting sheets!

DIY Fort Kit in a Bag

DIY Fort Kit in a Bag by www.sproutingtadpoles.com

My boys love building forts! They will go outside and spend hours putting forts together. They have to find just the right spot, spend hours putting it together only to then take it down, move to another spot in the yard and start all over. whew! Once they are finally established they act like secret spy agents and try to get to each other’s forts. It is really a lot of fun watching their imaginations take off! Even though ALL of my sheets and heavy containers seem to disappear, and no one knows where they went.  Hmmm….  Okay. Who am I to discourage creative thinking and logistics?

Our DIY Fort Kit

In an effort to save my household products, I decided to make them their very own Fort Kits in a special, personalized bag. Each one of them have their own bag with their initials on it complete with all the things a kid needs to build his very own, personal fort and even watch out for intruders. I found some old bed sheets that we don’t use anymore and also picked up 1 or 2 from Goodwill. I then went to the Dollar Tree and purchased flash lights, bungee cords to strap down the sheets, some spy kits they had at the time (you can’t complete a secret mission without cool gadgets) and magnifying glasses. I also added in some binoculars and walkie-talkies I found at the toy store. For these items, I did spend a little more money just so they would (hopefully) last longer. My boys are pretty rough on things and I wanted them to have items that actually worked! Toys R Us was having a sale on their science stuff around Christmas so I was able to get some night-time goggles and some pretty cool binoculars that have flash lights on them, for a great price. And of course, the final touch was adding a foam sword or plastic gun.

Once I had all of my stuff purchased, I went looking for some sturdy material that would hold all of this and could take a beating. I found some thick fleece scraps that were in my sewing scrap box and luckily, I had just enough to make 4 bags! I had two colors so I rotated the colors between the bag and the initials. I went to my mom and she helped me put these together (she did most of the work, while I watched!)

Here are some step-by-step photos:

gallary1

gallary2

After we finished the bags, I gathered the materials for each one and stuffed them. I gave them to the boys for Christmas and they loved them! Mission accomplished :). I no longer have household items go missing, yeah for me! I hope you have enjoyed this post and if you choose to make your own fort kit, send me some pictures and I will post them up here! Thanks for reading!

Customized Sheets to Inspire

Handwriting is an art and a physical skill that is essential to communication, even in our electronic age. But it requires practice, and just like grown-ups, kids get bored with busy work. Custom worksheets keep your students interested, with words and sentences they relate to. Now they will love to write (at least until they learn to send text messages).

Fun Designs to Work With

Make your worksheets pop! StartWrite 6 includes easy to use yet robust design tools, so you can control colors and a variety of letter attributes. Add cute Border Art to highlight the word your students are learning. Insert Dotted Shapes so they can practice drawing squares, circles and triangles while they learn to write the words. Add Clip Art, Area Shading, Start Dots, and lots more. The only real problem we see with StartWrite Version 6 is that with all the new options and features you’ll enjoy creating worksheets so much that you’ll forget you’re supposed to be making them for the kids!

Planning a Homeschool Graduation

Homeschool Graduation Ceremony Homeschool Survival

Congratulations! You have brought your child through the ranks and he’s on the verge of graduating. Just the other day you were sitting side by side, sounding out c-a-t and counting little plastic bears together. Here she is ready to receive her high school diploma! Now what? Is a graduation ceremony required? How do I plan one? What if she doesn’t want a ceremony? Will he regret it if he doesn’t have an official photo wearing that gown and mortar board?

These are all great questions. And the wonderful thing is, just like homeschooling in general, there is no right or wrong way to go about it. You have the freedom to do what suits your family best. The homeschooling laws vary a bit from state to state but once your child has met the requirements, you, the instructor/principal/administrator of your homeschool, can decide how and when to give that diploma.

Many families have the opportunity to participate in graduation activities and ceremony with their local homeschool support group. These often include the cap and gown, presentation of diploma, display of achievements, speakers, the whole sha-bang. But what if you are not a part of a larger support group, or there are no other graduates this year? What if your child does not want to participate? What options do you have?Graduation Diploma Homeschool Survival

Here are some out-of-the-box ideas for a graduation celebration. Our family brainstormed this list when our oldest graduated. Much to Mom’s disappointment, no one else in my family is into the ‘pomp and circumstance’ and prefers things low-key and informal. My son and husband both would have been happy with a pat on the back and a “job well done!’ My request was to mark the day in a special way – I wanted a celebration of some type. These are some of the results from the list we created.

  • Backyard BBQ – invite friends and family to share graduates favorite foods, with outside activities like volleyball and baseball. Parents & graduate share a few words and present diploma. This is the option all four of our graduates have chosen so far.

Graduation Baseball Homeschool Survival

  • Recital or demonstration showcasing graduate’s talents and/or accomplishments
  • Open Mike Roast and Toast – guests arrive for refreshments and presentation of diploma then invite guests to share stories and memories from the life of the graduate.
  • Pool Party!
  • A Family Dream Vacation – Forgo the traditional graduation party and take a trip together
  • Mark this milestone by helping graduate accomplish a lifelong goal – climb the highest mountain, swim the deepest ocean, trace his genealogy, go on an archeological dig . . .
  • Create a video interviewing your graduate asking her to share her favorite memories, highlights and struggles from her schooling years. Ask about goals and dreams and where she’d like to be in five years, ten years.

Graduation Homeschool Survival

Up to this point, none of our children have worn a cap and gown when graduating out of our homeschool. They were happy to gather the important people in their lives, choose the menu, enjoy fellowship together. To my knowledge none of them regret it and have fond memories of the way we chose to celebrate the occasion. As the Administrator, Principal and Teachers in our homeschool, my husband and I did present an official diploma (graduation supplies can be purchased at HSLDA.org) and enjoyed having friends and family witness the big event.

What a blessing it is to have the freedom to custom make our children’s education AND their graduation celebration. Let’s make it unique and memorable!

What graduation plans are you making? Will they be traditional or out-of-the-box and unique?

Moments of Grace: Parenting the Homeschooled Child

Moments of Grace: Parenting the Homeschooled Child

Homeschooling does not come naturally to me. In fact, I think of myself as the Reluctant Homeschooler. I had vision of my life as a mom, and this WAS NOT IT. I was going to drop my two children off at the local public school, take a jog down Hinson and have lunch with my friends at Trios after having spent an hour or two volunteering somewhere. But God had a different plan for me. And I sometimes wonder if He is chuckling a bit at my ridiculous ideas!

Homeschooling is SO HARD. “Normal” people spend a HUGE amount of time without their children every day. And while spending every waking moment with my children….and sometimes my sleeping moments as well since the two year old will NOT stay out of our bed…. IS a great thing (really, I DO mean this. I LOVE that I get the best part of my children’s day) there are things we deal with in an almost nonstop way that others only see glimmers of in the afternoon/evenings & weekends.

Like this morning, as my four year old was crying (for the tenth time) that her big sisters had wronged her in some horrible way while they were playing Barbies. I called all three in and discovered that the 6 yo had stolen back a Barbie that the 4 yo had stolen originally. I looked at my six year old (who is closer to seven than six) and told her that this was a great opportunity to show grace to her sister. Yes, Ryen did NOT deserve to have the doll because she was wrong when she stole it in the first place but we can show her love by letting her have it. We can show love by giving her what she clearly does not deserve. She looked at me with a mix of exasperation and skepticism.

I sighed. “It sucks, doesn’t it?”

She looked a little surprised.

“Showing grace to someone who doesn’t deserve it sucks, doesn’t it? It is hard. It hurts and everything in us wants to scream NO! But we do it because we love.”

She nodded.

“Do you think it was easy for Jesus to go to the cross? To show grace to us? To BE grace for us?”

“Nooooooo.” Quiet, head shaking.

“And it hurt. It hurt really bad. Not just where they put the nails but it hurt His heart because we were so bad and so undeserving. He even asked God to not make Him do it. But in the end, He DID IT. He did it because He IS love. And when we love others, we show them grace because we love and because Jesus is IN us. And He IS LOVE.”

Those thoughts just set on us all for a moment. My eight year old looked up at Ryen and said “Ryen, I am sorry I have been so mean to you all morning. Do you forgive me?”

The six year old gave her the much fought over doll (which the two year old promptly stole – but that is a whole other issue). The four year old dried her tears and hugged her sisters and off they went to play ….

This is a moment I would NOT have had if my older girls had been at school. The four year old would have had the Barbies to herself all day. The big girls would have had friends and connection elsewhere, making a rift with their little sister not seem so important. God had another plan, and it is a good one. I am so grateful that He ALWAYS shows us grace, even when we think we know better. This is a whole lot better than a jog and lunch with my friends!

Time Management: Unpack the Schedule

timemanagmentFor me, it’s much easier to give help than to receive it.  You too? I don’t want to be a bother. It’s fine. I can make do. My intention and perhaps yours too, is to give my best efforts to my family. Consequently, I expel a massive amount of energy to show my love.  In the end, I am empty. My head buzzes as if I revved the engine all day but never left the parking spot.

Other times, the problem is overzealous multitasking. I’m not talking about making toast while unloading the dishwasher. I mean teaching school, while cleaning the whole kitchen, chasing a toddler, while planning the next event for church!  Biting off way more than can be chewed. It’s inevitable at times. But sometimes it’s self-inflicted. Either way we are left short fused, usually at the expense of our families.

Refusing help and overzealous multitasking at unhealthy levels can be echoes of PRIDE. In these moments we are leaving God and His infinite wisdom out of the equation.

When pride comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2

As mothers, we do not have anything to prove to the world. Yet, we have endless wisdom to seek. Let’s slow down for a sec, take a deep breath and ask.

Tips to Unpack: the Schedule

  1. Ask for help: Our needs are not obvious to others. Communicate needs respectfully.
  2. Know your limits: Spend time praying about priorities. Being capable of completing the task is invalid when one is overextended. Jack of all trades = master of none.
  3. Setting boundaries: Find the line and do not cross it. Distinguishing between what is imperative and what is a distraction is crucial.

We can do all things…through Jesus Christ WHO gives us strength! Philippians 4:13

Momma, you were not designed with superpowers. You were created by a Supernatural God who wants to lavish His all into you.

Be still and know He is God. Psalms 46:10

Sometimes the best thing we can do is just “be.”  We always want to do for God, as in action.  Serving, but not sitting still.  We teach our children there are two kinds of verbs; action and being. Essentially, being with God is an action. We tend to minimize it because we are unable see the instant results we are looking for. When we are being still, He is working deep inside where it can’t yet be seen. In faith those little unseen seeds will produce great fruit.

Which are you more likely to struggle with?  Refusing help or overzealous multitasking? How will you implement practical changes to bring peace into your home?

Before we go. I wanted to share with you a new tool I will be using to teach my girls about the Bible. Its called Grape Vine Studies – stick figures through the bible! Read, discuss, draw, and memorize scripture. It can be used as a discipleship enrichment or as a homeschool curriculum.

They offer many free lessons too!

We are going to start with Esther – my girls ask questions about her, I’m looking forward to diving in on a level they will understand!

This is an affiliate link – Thank you for supporting our family!
